At £39,995 with three years of warranty behind it, this is one of the tidiest compact campers we have had on the forecourt, and at 4.98m long it is a motorhome you can actually park outside your own house.

The Wellhouse Terrier 2 is among the most respected small conversions built in this country, and this 2018 example has covered just 16,222 miles from new. Eight years, and barely two thousand miles a year. That kind of history shows in everything: the upholstery, the cabinetry, the pop-top canvas and the appliances are all in excellent order. It has clearly been looked after by someone who cared about it.

Finished in silver on the Euro 6 2.0 TDCi with a six speed manual gearbox, it drives like the van it is based on, which is to say easily. Motorway miles are relaxed, town centres are no bother, and you are not committing to a 7 metre vehicle every time you want a weekend away. The kitchen has a two burner gas hob with grill, sink and a 12V Dometic compressor fridge, with plenty of cupboard space around it. Heating comes from an Eberspächer blown-air diesel system, which is the reason this is a year-round camper rather than a summer one. There are multiple 12V and 230V sockets, a removable dining table plus a larger rear table that stows away in the back, leisure battery management and a gas locker.
